Bogota, COLOMBIA – All of Latin America celebrated ‘the Day of Prayer and Action for Children,’ promoted by the Latin American Bishops' Council (CELAM), the Latin American Council of Churches (CLAI), as well as support of UNICEF and UNESCO.
According to several reports on the Day, from the association ‘Manos Unidos’ of Spain, there are 200 million children who work in precarious situations or settings not fit for children; each day, 27,000 children under 5 die from inevitable causes; in the last decade, 2 million children have died in armed conflict; 250,000 are used as child-soldiers; 70 million school-aged children do not attend school; in the world, there are 15 million children left orphans from AIDS.
